URGENT- WE NEED YOUR HELP TO GET THE SCHOOL BOARD TO ADD LUTHER JACKSON MS TO THEIR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN NOW!

Our community needs your help. I wish there was more time to give a proper backstory with pictures and facts and stories but we're in a bit of a time crunch. The FCPS School Board will be voting on the latest Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) that includes renovation of school buildings next Thursday, February 8. Luther Jackson Middle School where our Camelot students will be attending one day, is in desperate need of renovations to the 70 year old building that poses serious safety and health concerns. The School Board needs to hear from us, the community, that we need our school added to this renovation list.

If you feel so moved, will you please copy and paste the below email to the following email addresses:

Mr Karl Frisch, Providence District School Board Rep, kvfrisch@fcps.edu

Dr Ricardy Anderson, Mason District School Board Rep, rjanderson@fcps.edu,

Mr Kyle McDaniel, At-Large Member, rkmcdaniel@fcps.edu

Dr Michelle Reid, Superintendent for FCPS, superintendent@fcps.edu

Subject Line: Luther Jackson Facilities in disrepair-pls add to CIP

I’m writing today to say thank you for your efforts to enhance, refine and eventually approve the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). However, I am concerned that Luther Jackson Middle School (LJMS) continues to not be included within the renovation queue even though the school was constructed in 1954 which is prior to many schools on this list. LJMS continues to have several health, safety, and equity issues that pose concerns for our students and teachers and inhibit their day to day work at the school. Though the building is 70 years old much of it has been untouched through the years though it is heavily used, both internally within FCPS and externally by the community at large.

We urge each of you to "stand up" and reconsider the schools within the renovation queue and reevaluate incorporating LJMS before your upcoming vote.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
